Saving the environment or a life - how far can you go when choosing unique gift ideas?

With so many consumer choices out there, it can be very difficult to find something unique or unusual. Whereas in the past, finding anything that wasn’t sold in the corner shop could have been considered ‘quirky’, the crash landing of the internet into our lives means that anyone has access to the same variety of unique (and sometimes even weird) products.

When buying the perfect gift for someone, the range of gift ideas that you can buy nowadays is mind-blowing. My Dad always used to joke that he got a stick for his birthdays when he was a lad and an orange for Christmas if he was lucky (at least I think he was joking), how far this seems from the Wii games and mobile phones I bought my kids just two generations and fifty years later. So if so much can change in fifty years, imagine buying for the 60-year old and beyond age groups – everything is unique to them!

We have so many outlets for our personalities and pursuits now that it can be hard to tailor a gift exactly to someone’s attributes. That’s where the internet comes into its own, allowing you to search and browse such a wide range of goods that you cannot fail to find the absolute perfect gift.

We are all more conscious of the environment in recent years and many people strive to be eco-friendly. Therefore, buying a birthday present for them can be quite difficult and cause anxiety as to whether you could induce offence. A great unique and appropriate present is the Jimi Wallet. Made of recyclable plastic as opposed to leather (so great for vegetarians and vegans alike), it only houses a couple of credit/debit cards and a few notes – making it ideal for rehabilitating shopaholics too! We have just enjoyed the festival season and as the Jimi Wallet can be slipped comfortably into your front pocket it really is the wallet of choice. As a portion from sales of the product is donated to environmental causes too, this is a gift within a gift. How unique is that?

There are also other gifts that are eco-conscious. One that also carries humour is the coughing ashtray. Smoking is - through taxes, the public ban and heightened awareness of our health- fast becoming a habit that people want to kick. Although products such as nicotine patches relieve the chemical craving, there aren’t many crutches to stop the physical habit. So how about a constant reminder that they should be stubbing that cigarette out, amplified by an ashtray that actually coughs when used? And not just a polite ‘ahem’, but the throaty, phlegmy, gross splutter of someone with a bucket of tar on their lungs. Though this may not seem much of a ‘gift’, the extra years on their life surely are. How many presents actually prolong life!! Is this unusual enough for you?

MyRedPacket have many unusual, quirky and unique gift ideas; pages could be written on their purposes, benefits and sheer usefulness. So instead of scouring the internet for those ‘unusual’ gifts, just visit our website.
