Gadgets Galore!

James Bond films are loved by boys and, in turn, men - mainly due to the gadgets featured. The ‘looks like a pen, but it’s actually a fully functional research labatory’ is an idea that started from the first film and is still going strong in the Daniel Craig newbies. It seems the more ridiculous an idea, the more we swallow it and think ‘yes, that could actually be a working prototype – surely you must be able to buy these in the shops?’

But that’s the thing, isn’t it? Where do you buy gadgets? Do you go to the gadget shop? Is there such a thing?

Well, online, you can find any kind of shop you could ever want, such is the nature of the internet. And while gadgets are commonly seen as an attraction to the male species, I know many females who are just as excited about them!

I mean, what is a washer other than a large gadget? What is a toaster, if not a gadget designed to toast bread instead of dangling it over the fire? (And why are gadgets for women commonly associated with the kitchen?!).

But girls can be into other gadgets too. For instance, what woman would not like a desktop Henry Hoover? Think of all those dirty kids and men eating their tea while surfing the net, dropping a mountain of crumbs into the keyboard – is it making your skin crawl? But all hail Henry, with his flexible nozzle - just waiting to get into your nooks and crannies….

For the technological age, there is a whole host of ‘gadgety’ things you can plug into your computer’s USB port…all designed to give you a little light relief while hitting those deadlines. A spinning mirrorball, Doctor Who web-cam, drum kit – all these things can make Monday mornings (and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays too!) seem a little less dreary. You can actually buy a light-up, bendy keyboard for your PC – imagine this combined with the USB mirrorball – party time! You could, for a moment at least, forget you’re at work. (More than worth it then!).

Although gadgets can have a novelty, frivolous element, they can also be really useful. Take the ‘Lav-Nav’, a toilet night light. This makes those sleepy trips to the loo far more accurate (yes, we mean you men). If you don’t use the overhead light in your house when spending a penny in the night, (for fear of waking the kids for example), then a seemingly simple trip to the toilet could be perilous or at the very least, unhygienic! The Lav-Nav attaches onto the toilet itself and is motion-sensitive, lighting up as soon as you walk in the room - shining different colours relative to the position of the lid (because we know girls and boys differ in how they use the loo). The dictionary definition of ‘gadget’ is ‘a device or control that is very useful for a particular job’….so there you go.

Not many shops stock items that exist purely to either make your life a whole lot easier, or just to give you a giggle – but MyRedPacket has an entire range. So, you could say they are a ‘gadget shop’. I wonder if James Bond is a good customer….?

Take me to your gadget shop to shop for gadgets
