Christmas gifts for men – but do they deserve it?
It’s no secret that in the majority of households women do the Christmas planning. This involves the Christmas gift lists for the whole family (sometimes, even their own list); menus, and the food shopping for all those Christmas dinner treats; timetables of visits to and from relatives to pass on good tidings….the list, literally, goes on. For a season supposed to celebrate great joy, stress can be a major factor. Kids, hyped up by all the anticipation for Santa, parents (especially mother-in-laws) criticising the proceedings and spouses who are under strict orders not to run off from it all to the pub – can leave the poor soul organising the holiday period feeling run off their feet.
When I was younger I once asked my Dad what he actually ‘did’ towards Christmas -after seeing my Mum run ragged trying to get everything under control. His reply? “Pay for it”, he said. Yes, well….that stopped that line of accusation.
Now that equality has spread its wings a bit more, with women working as many hours as their partners and often exceeding their wage, should it still be left up to the women to organise Christmas?
We wish we could change the dynamics and make everyone pitch in without complaint, but we aren’t magicians. What we can do is offer fantastic Christmas gifts for every sex, age and taste. One less thing to worry about, and the earlier you start, the more prepared you will be when December 25th finally gets here.
The kids will probably have told you thousands of times over what they want for Christmas (and changed their minds just as many times too), but most men, when asked what they want for Christmas, shrug their shoulders and say “I don’t know….surprise me”. (How about a night on the sofa – enough of a surprise??)
You don’t need to spend a lot of money to give a great Xmas gift to your hubby or partner. Sometimes the simplest of things can keep them entertained for hours – there’s no wonder us women think that they never grow up! Why not buy them something that has some practical use too? Our football alarm clock fills both those boxes; useful – getting him up at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning so he can put the turkey in, and fun too – the alarm clock can be switched off by throwing it or kicking it from their side of the bed. Just beware of falling chunks of plaster from your wall….!
A lot of Dads love it when their sons (or even daughters) receive a Christmas gift that they secretly want to play with too. Scalextric, remote controlled cars, drum kits – well, we stock mini versions of these things, so the kids can breathe easy that they get to have a go on their own toy! Racing grannies, remote-controlled jousting knights and finger drums can be given to your men, if only to give the kids (and you) some peace.
For something a little more personal, why not have a tankard engraved with your own seasonal tidings. He can then make a toast at your Christmas dinner in style and as long as the tankard is constantly topped up, he’ll be better positioned to endure your mother.
It is a great shame that after what can easily be a couple of months planning, the actual event passes by so quickly. By the time you sit down to watch the Queen’s speech, it’s not long before Big Ben is ringing in the new year and everything returns to normality for another year.
Let MyRedPacket help you take the stress away from one of the points on your Xmas ‘to-do’ list - browse through our great range of Christmas gifts for men and you’ll be sure to find the perfect presents for all. You may even find something for yourself too; after all, with so much hard work involved with organising Christmas, you certainly deserve it.
