Originally harking back to a Scottish tradition, housewarming is a common concept today. From the primitive custom of taking the fire embers from an old house over to the new abode to heat the rooms, the term ‘housewarming’ sprang. Today we associate it with wishing occupants of a new home a happy and prosperous life there, by perhaps purchasing housewarming gifts.
Housewarming giftsusually have one of two main capacities; some have both. One requirement is usually to be functional or useful, so first-time buyers would welcome cutlery, glassware, kitchen utensils etc – though people moving from one house to another would tend to already have these things.
