The Big, Fat, Wedding…Season

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I’ve really been enjoying the series ‘My Big, Fat Gypsy Wedding’ for the pure escapism and entertainment it has afforded.  One of the things this show has confirmed is that one’s wedding day is a huge affair.  The recession may have meant some people reining in their spending on their nuptials but on the whole, and if this programme is anything to go by, there is some serious money thrown around.

If you are attending a huge, elaborate wedding this year, you may worry what to buy as a gift for the happy couple.  Rest assured, most couples spend a lot of money on their big day for their own satisfaction, as it’s the only day they’ll (hopefully) ever have like it.  They won’t expect you to be quite so extravagant.

Luckily, MyRedPacket has a range of wedding gifts for the whole wedding party - at very affordable prices.  However, even though these gifts are affordable, it doesn’t mean that they don’t look expensive.  Take a look at this:

Two crystal-cut champagne flutes that can also be engraved for you at no extra cost - for just £40.  The perfect gift for the happy couple and one that will be used year on year - inexpensive but elegant and opulent.

There’s so much planning involved with any wedding; most need at least two years to be sure of securing favour venues and providers.  Remembering all the little things, like placecards on the table, paying the church fees, travel arrangements for your faraway guests - knowing that there’s one place where you can buy beautiful gifts for all your attendants can be a huge weight from your shoulders.

Wedding Gifts such as necklaces, cufflinks, pamper packs, personalised items - there’s plenty on our website.  We’ve sourced our gifts with weddings in mind; we know that your best man will appreciate an engraved tankard or cufflinks for his trouble, or that your bridesmaids would all love something like this:

Young or old, these charm bracelets can be personalised by the recipient even further by adding extra charms.  We’ve different variations of this jewellery gift which will help you either decide which colour would suit which bridesmaid the most - or just so you can keep track of which bracelet is for whom!

We’ve also plenty of gifts for the mothers of the bride and groom.  You could award them something classic and traditional, or get them something completely tailored to their personality - like ‘Name a Rose’ or an unusual but beautiful photo frame - ideal for inserting one of your wedding pictiures.

Now that ‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ has come to an end I’ll have to search for something to watch that will be just as enjoyable.  However, for your big, fat wedding, you need to search no further for the perfect wedding gift.

Grans and granddads - they’re as young as they feel!

If you’re looking to buy either, or both, of your grandparents a gift - perhaps for a birthday or wedding anniversary - look no further.  Though they’re two generations ahead of you, it doesn’t automatically mean that they’re going to want polish for their zimmer frames or electric blankets as presents.

Because we’re living longer nowadays, and with the advances in medical science, people 80+ are still holding down jobs and enjoying an active life.  You even get some that start sky-diving or bungee-jumping in their later years, either because they’ve always wanted to do it or because they truly feel that life is a gift and one that should be celebrated by living on the edge!

Therefore, when it comes to gifts, think either of something that would celebrate their life, rather than wallowing in self-pity about their age, or a gift that you would normally associate with someone a fraction of their years.

An absolutely perfect gift for the elderly, following such a character assessment, is this talking greetings card:

Not only for those young-at-heart gadget nuts (you know, those that spend more time on Twitter and Facebook than most 18 year olds), this would please any grandparent on their birthday.  The card holds a special chip that relives things that happened in the very year they were born.  It looks, at first glance, like a newspaper - complimented by the back sports page - but the lovely sentiment at the end of the recording states that the most important thing that happened in that year was, “YOU were born”.  How great is that?!

For those lucky seniors who have an affinity with dining out when the rest of us are either too busy paying our mortgage or are too knackered from looking after kids to go out on a night, we have a great wine-lovers’ gift:

Not only do they get to ‘adopt’ a vine, they can have a tour, attend the harvesting and also sample the fruits of, well, someone’s else’s labour, by tasting the wine at the vineyard.  And before you envisage them needing to toddle off to the south of France, the vineyard is in the UK, in Oxfordshire.  They also receive a 10% discount on ‘their’ wine in the vineyard shop as well as on other items.  A far better gift than a cheap bottle of plonk from the local supermarket, and because there’s a strict process to make the wine, the gift will last until next year’s birthday!

Sometimes, one of the greatest gifts you can give elderly relatives or friends is your time.  Yes, they’d appreciate a great gift like the ones above and the others we feature on www.myredpacket.co.uk but if you can present it to them whilst spending the afternoon, or even a day, in their company, it would be far more appreciated.  They may have all the time in the world to start new hobbies, go on long trips or sit around drinking cups of tea, but perhaps you haven’t.  Therefore, they probably don’t get to sit and chat with you as often, or for as long, as they’d like.  Just don’t spend longer choosing the perfect gift than the time you spend actually handing it over!

That’s where we can help - there’s so many great gifts for grandma/grandpa in our ranges that you don’t need to spend ages deciding which one to buy.  From personalised photo frames to gardening and travel gifts - you’ll find the perfect gift for your young oldie right here.
